Erkki Antero Koivunen

Shawn's grandfather passed away this week after living with Alzheimer's and suffering a serious fall. Erkki and Shawn's grandmother, Helvi, came to the U.S. several years after immigrating to Canada from Finland in 1951. As a mechanical engineer for GM, Erkki patented many of the designs that still make up today's automatic transmissions -- he was well known in his field as a result of his innovative designs.

Erkki was a wonderful grandfather to Shawn and they spent a lot of time together over the years. I'm grateful I got to know him for so many years as well. Erkki was loved by all of his family and friends, and we'll miss him very much.

Think PINK!

We had our ultrasound today, and learned we're having a GIRL! We're so excited -- and I'm looking forward to evening out the testosterone balance around this house!

I also realize that I've neglected to upload photos in a while. Here are some pics from the past several weeks to get you up to speed!

Andy and Shawn goofing off (per usual).

(that's singing)

There's that toothy grin again!

All the boys on the couch. Andy is "massaging" Herbie (who looks nervous because massaging often turns to ear pinching).

Shawn's band played a gig at the Mars Bar in Seattle last Friday night.

The Bunny Bounce at Woodland Park Zoo with Nona, Melissa, Bryn, Monica and Elisa!
(Bryn went for the pink and purple eggs of course!)

Watching the gorillas.

After the zoo and brunch, we were heading to our car when Andy saw this gem of a forklift. Tresspass? Who cares!

With Grandpa.
